Sevenoaks AC Information Sheet

Sevenoaks Athletics Club is of modest size but with a friendly atmosphere. At present there are over 200 members and it is growing rapidly.

The Club caters for runners of all ages and abilities. It offers facilities to participate in road running, cross country, track and field, and sports hall athletics.

Training and Coaching

Road Running: We meet at Sennocke Centre (Sevenoaks School) at 7.00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, where we can use the changing rooms, parking and showers. In the winter, we have a training run of approximately 7 miles. In the lighter evenings, we use a more attractive route of nearly 8 miles through Knole Park. Variations on these routes are used by those not wishing to run so far. We are particularly keen to attract new runners. On most Sundays there is a 5 mile 'saunter', starting at Sevenoaks School Track at 9:00 a.m.

During the winter, we also meet for an interval training session at the Vine Cricket Ground on Thursday evenings at 7.00 p.m.

Track and Field: In summer, coaching for young athletes is available on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. and for seniors and veterans on Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Sports Hall: Younger members (up to 17) meet in the Sevenoaks School sports hall in winter from 6.30 pm on Tuesdays, for general training, coaching and games. In the summer they meet at Sevenoaks School track.

Other Activities

Monthly Handicap: Once a month, on a Sunday at 9.00 a.m. in the winter and on a Tuesday at 7.00 p.m. in the summer, we hold a handicap race starting and finishing at the Sevenoaks School track. This alternates between two routes through Knole Park: one of 5 miles, the other of 7 miles. Each runner is given a handicap time based on previous finishing times, and these are aimed at everyone finishing together. Over the 12 races, trophies are awarded to runners with the best 4 finishing positions. This event is very popular and members of all abilities take part.

Road Races: Throughout the year, members take part individually in road races in Kent and further afield, and in the Kent Championships. They also participate in team events and relays.

Performances in these races are used as the basis of a Grand Prix series, in which members with the best six results are awarded trophies. WAVA age-related performance tables are used, to allow members to compete on equal terms.

Performances in Kent Championship races are also used to establish Club Road Championship positions.

Cross Country: We compete with teams of seniors, veterans and younger members in various cross country leagues.

We are hosts for an annual race in Knole Park as part of the Kent Fitness series. We also organise an annual charity 5km fun run in Knole Park.

Track and Field: Our teams compete in the Kent Division of the Southern Counties Veterans Athletic Club Track and Field League. Individual members compete in various open meetings.

Performances at track and field meetings are used as the basis of a separate Grand Prix series, in which members with the best three results are awarded trophies. WAVA age-related performance tables are used, as in road races.

Sevenoaks Seven: We organise the Sevenoaks Seven, a seven mile multi-terrain race in Knole Park in May. This attracts over 400 entries.

Social Events: We have a Christmas party, a summer barbecue and other social occasions.
