The 5th annual running of the Sevenoaks 5km Charity Fun Run took place in Knole Park on Sunday 28 September.
The event was hosted by Sevenoaks Athletics Club to raise funds for a local charity, Spring House Family Support Centre.
It was a varied field of novices and club athletes, and many families running together. There were 118 finishers, the youngest being 6 and the oldest 73 years old. The event was blessed with glorious sunshine. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event as evidenced by the array of smiles at the end. All competitors were greeted with a finishing medal and a well earned refreshment. The first male winner was Robert Murray of Sevenoaks Triathlon Club, he was followed by Andrew Mead and Robert Carr, both from Sevenoaks Athletics Club. Defending champion Tina Oldershaw of Paddock Wood AC was a comfortable winner of the female race, finishing a full minute ahead of second placed Abigail Ashbee-Simmonds, with Rebecca Farrell a further minute behind. The proceeds from the event are still being collected but early indications are that they will have raised more than £500 raised for Spring House. The official names/times for the winners were: Given the success of the event it is the intention of Sevenoaks A.C. to repeat it in 2009. |
