Sevenoaks AC Handicap 9 April 2018 |
Andrew Mead won the fourth race of the Sevenoaks AC 2018 handicap series by twenty-five seconds. In cool conditions, Andrew Mead had a fine run as he overtook Julie Lobley in the closing stages to register his first handicap win for ten years, and first ever over the longer seven mile course. With a time of 48:06, Mead beat his handicap by thirty-four seconds. Comfortably holding on to second place, Julie Lobley repeated her position from the previous race as she was the only other runner to beat her handicap, by nine seconds, with 65:11. Andy Ashlee finished another seventeen seconds back in third in the day's fastest time of 46:38. Ashlee was more than a minute clear of Chris Desmond's 47:53 for fourth. Albeit back in tenth place, Grace Manzotti was the fastest woman in the race with 62:59. Andrew Mead's win and some good placings in earlier races puts him top of the series table after four races, with a big fifteen point lead over Chris Desmond, the only other runner to have completed all four races so far in 2018. Although the series is only a third of the way through, Mead's excellent score of just 11 points will take some catching as the competition progresses. With eight more races to go in this year-long competition, the series moves to Tuesday evenings for four months to take advantage of the later daylight. The next race, the fifth of the 2018 series, is over the alternate five mile course. It starts from the Sevenoaks School track at 7 pm on Tuesday 8 May. Newcomers are very welcome to come and run. |
