SAC Handicap February 2018

Jon Copping scored a comfortable victory in the second race of the 2018 Sevenoaks AC monthly handicap series, as he beat his handicap by more than three minutes over the hilly seven mile course. In sunny but cool and blustery conditions, Copping won by a minute and twenty-three seconds in a time of 61:01.

In second place with 56:04, David Lobley was a similar distance ahead of Andrew Mead, who ran 48:38 in third. Completing a quartet of runners to get under their handicaps, Graham Dwyer just squeaked under his target by three seconds with 53:27, as he finished nineteen seconds behind Mead in fourth place.

Back in seventh place, Keith Dowson was the fastest runner on the day, and by a big margin the best age-grade performer, with 45:26. Pauline Dalton was the fastest woman in eleventh place with 56:26.

Only one of the first six finishers from last month's first race in the 2018 series ran in this second stage: Andrew Mead. He was third in both races, giving him the most promising start to the year-long competition.

The next instalment, the third race of the 2018 series, is over the alternate five mile course. It starts from the Sevenoaks School track at 9 am on Sunday 25 March. Newcomers are very welcome to come and run.
