Sevenoaks AC Handicap 5 June 2022

Pauline Dalton was the only runner to beat her handicap as she scored an emphatic win in the sixth race of the Sevenoaks AC 2022 handicap series in misty but breezy conditions. Dalton set off steadily over the first mile of the hilly seven mile course before accelerating away to a time of 53:57. That was Dalton's fastest time for nearly seven years and her best age-graded performance ever in the event. She also beat her handicap by seventy-three seconds.

Seventy-three seconds was also the gap to second-placed Suzy Claridge, who nevertheless again improved her best ever time for the course, this time by four seconds with 49:40. In third place, Lucy Wilkes also found the conditions to her liking as she too set her fastest time for the course of 59:27, an improvement of 43 seconds.

Suzy Claridge's excellent time of 49:40 was the fastest of the day, while back in seventh place, Graham Dwyer's 54:04 was the fastest by a man.

At the halfway point in the series, in which the score is based on the runners' best four race positions, Lucy Wilkes' third place was enough to put her in the lead by one point. Suzy Claridge's win elevates her to second, one point ahead of Jane Morgan who skipped the June event. With six races yet to go though, there is still plenty of opportunity for existing challengers to improve and for new challengers to emerge.

The seventh race of the series is over the alternate five mile (8k) course, starting at the Sevenoaks School track at 08:30 on 17 July. Handicaps for participants in the last twelve months are here but newcomers are also very welcome to take part.
