Sevenoaks AC Handicap 24 November 2019

Andrew Mead secured the Sevenoaks AC 2019 Handicap Trophy at the penultimate race of the series. With his closest rivals unable to capitalise on some good, if sometimes slippery, running conditions over the hilly five-mile course, no-one can now catch the series leader's score of four points from his best four races.

With an encouraging return to form, Duncan Warwick-Champion beat his handicap by two-and-a-half minutes to win the race by over two minutes in 43:00. The second and third scorers were closer together as James Baker (35:16) held off Graham Dwyer (35:38) by twelve seconds with both beating their handicaps.

The race was also notable for the fastest times being set by a mother and son. Suzy Claridge set the best women's time of the day with 37:43 in sixth place, while son Thomas, a non-scorer in the race, beat his previous time for the hilly five-mile course by 32 seconds with 32:18. New Champion Andrew Mead was the fastest scoring runner recording 33:58 in seventh place.

Absent from the November race, but still clear in second in the series, Sylvia Lewis has a four-point cushion over Pauline Dalton and Suzy Claridge, with Simon Hallpike another point behind in fifth. These four are among the most likely challengers for the second and third spots to be determined at the final race of the 2019 series, which is over the alternate seven mile course. It starts from the Sevenoaks School track at 9 am on Sunday 22 December. Newcomers are very welcome to come and run.
