Sevenoaks AC Handicap 19 September 2021

Suzy Series leader Suzy Claridge asserted her current dominance of the 2021 Sevenoaks AC Handicap series by winning the ninth race by a big margin. After eighteen runs over the hilly five mile course over fourteen years, Claridge recorded her fastest ever time of 36:34, more than a minute under her handicap and one minute 36 seconds clear of second place.

The runner-up was Chris Desmond who showed an encouraging return to form with 37:50 while just holding off Andy Ashlee - 34:32 for third place - by two seconds. Ashlee's time was the fastest of the day, while Suzy Claridge's new personal best over the course was the fastest by a woman.

With three races remaining in the series, Suzy Claridge has increased her lead over Simon Hallpike to three points, with the next three runners, Dan Witt, Bridgit Weekes and Lucy Wilkes another five points behind. With four scoring races required, and only three races remaining, the number of runners who can, at least in theory, still challenge for the series trophy is now reduced to ten, although one more win from Claridge would almost certainly seal victory.

The tenth race of the 2021 series, over the alternate seven mile distance, starts from the Sevenoaks School track at 08:30 on Sunday 31st October.
