Adams 17.7 About the Grand Prix: The Grand Prix uses performance tables produced by World Masters Athletics which enable performances for any event and age of competitor to be fairly compared. These tables are based on the world best times or distances either actually recorded or calculated for each age between 8 and 100 years for every recognised track and field event. Because they provide a world standard for each event at each age they enable each performance by an athlete, male or female, junior or senior, to be compared with the recognised world best for their age and expressed as a percentage. For example, a 17 year old male sprinter runs 13.5s for 100m and the Age Graded Tables give the world best time as 10.16s for this age. The age graded percentage is calculated as 10.16/13.5 x 100% or 75.3%. We as a Club use these tables for calculating the Grand Prix scores for our three Grand Prix competitions – Junior GP, Road Race GP and Senior Track & Field GP. |

2007
ROAD RACE GRAND PRIX
June Johnson has won her first club Road Race Grand Prix with a string of excellent performances in the first half of the year. June has scored consistently in the mid 80% range and achieved an aggregate score of well in excess of 500 points in her six qualifying races. Her best performance of 88.6 came in the BMAF 5k Road Championships at Horwich where she finished 3rd F60 in a time of 22.48. She also produced some excellent performances at the European Non Stadia Championships in Regensburg. In second place was John Denyer who returned to form this year to record a number of 80% scores with his best score of 83.1 at the Coventry Godiva 5 and the Serpentine 5k. In third place was Geoff Vine who posted some consistent scores at the Serpentine 5k in January (77.1) and the Sidcup 10 (76.9). Unfortunately a long term injury in the middle of the year prevented Geoff from improving his position and making an impact on his new M60 age category. In the Most Improved Category there were a number of high scores and Carol Beadle was rewarded for her consistency in the early part of the year to win with an impressive improved score of 32.9. In second place was Andy Rackham with an improvement of 18.0 and third was Scot Haggarty with 15.3. Totals Road Race Grand Prix 1st June Johnson 513.0 2nd John Denyer 494.6 3rd Geoff Vine 455.4 Most Improved 1st Carol Beadle 32.9 2nd Andy Rackham 18.0 3rd Scot Haggarty 15.3 (All trophies will be presented at the AGM in April) |

The World Masters Athletics (WMA), formerly World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA), Age Graded Tables first published in 1989 and updated in 2006, provide the basis for comparing athletic performances for different ages, genders, and between different events. These tables are based on the world best times or distances either actually recorded or calculated for each age between 8 and 100 years for every recognised track and field and road race event. There are now on-line calculators for calculating a WMA score for any performance. The link below takes you to the one we use, instructions are provided – all you need to do is select the event, enter your performance, gender and age and the calculator will provide your % score. Here is a link to the WMA on-line calculator of age graded scores. All you will need to do is enter the event, your age and performance. As the tables do not include the 7 mile distance, SAC - organiser of the Sevenoaks Seven - has its own (road only) calculator. |
