I attach the Bromley 12 June Division 2 meeting results: another successful session, with Sevenoaks AC finishing third in the meeting and overtaking Swanley AC for third place in the overall series so far.

Our sprinters were out in force for the 200m races.  Paul English was our fastest runner, with a very competitive push down the finishing straight for second place in the M35A event in 25.4 seconds, probably ranking 23rd in the UK this year for the M40s.  Martin White was third in the M35B race, Duncan Cochrane second in the M50s and Geoffrey Kitchener similarly placed in the M60s.  We fielded three competitors for the 1500m event: Rob Carr and Maurice Marchant together with Duncan, who was fastest, claiming third place in the M50s with 5 minutes 46.9 seconds.

In the field events, we managed to score in every category, which paid dividends where other teams did not.  The best placings secured were by Paul (9.09m for second place in the M35 shot put, just short of his personal best); Martin and Duncan (third places in the M35 and M50 high jump); Geoffrey (first in the M60 high jump with 1.20m); and Maurice (third in the M50 javelin).  David Simpson’s javelin throw of 18.04m, whilst not as far as he achieved at Sutcliffe Park earlier this season, would still appear to have been bettered by only two other UK M75 athletes this year, who were using a lighter specification of javelin.

The evening was rounded off by the 2km walk, where Maurice won second place in the M35 race and Geoffrey was third in the M50s, the latter race, bizarrely, being considerably faster.

The next meeting, the penultimate one of the series, is on Monday, 29 June, at Ashford.

The Ashford programme is:
6.46: men’s hammer throw (including over 60s), men’s pole vault, women’s 400m, triple jump and high jump.
7.05: men’s 400m.
7.25: women’s 3000m.
8.00: men’s triple jump, women’s hammer throw.
8.10: men’s 3000m.
8.55: women’s 4x400m relay.
9.15: men’s 4x400m relay.

For this match, we are supposed to be helping Bromley Vets manage the triple jump event.  If anyone can assist for some of the time, even just wielding a rake, I shall be grateful.  I am, however, quite reconciled to helping officiate instead of competing.  In consequence we will need athletes for events which I might otherwise have covered (400m and triple jump).

If you are able to attend, please let me know, preferably by Thursday 25 June, mentioning your preferred event(s) – and any others you might do in addition, if we cannot fill a gap.

If anyone can offer or would like a lift, please let me know.  I will have spaces.  The track is at Julie Rose Stadium, Willesborough Road, Kennington, Ashford, TN24 9QX).  It can be approached from junctions 9 or 10 of M20, but 10 tends to be better, and is more straightforward.  Parking is at the stadium.  The nearest station, Ashford, is not at all near.

This is a critical competition for making secure our third position in the series, bearing in mind the relative positions of Sevenoaks AC and Swanley AC.  I look forward to hearing from you.
