Despite the poor weather conditions, well over 100 runners turned out to the sixth running of the Sevenoaks Charity 5K Fun Run organised by Sevenoaks AC on Sunday 1st November. It was very much a family event, with 4 members of one family plus 2 of their friends taking part, and a huge age range - from 8 to 73.

Club Chairman, Paul Tabor said: "We raised around £800 for the charity, Rockdale Housing Association, and hopefully participants will have increased this amount by sponsorship. It was a shame about the weather as we might have raised even more on a sunny day. I would like to thank all those who entered, and all those who volunteered to help organize and run the event, as well as Lord Sackville for permitting us to hold the event."

First man to finish was Andrew Mead of Sevenoaks AC in 19:55, followed by Mads Kjaersgaard also of Sevenoaks AC in 20:01 and Jonathan Hope in 20:18. For the women, Tina Oldershaw of Paddock Wood AC was first in 20:09, followed by Helen Townsend in 25:13 and Abi Brown in 25:53.

Several other Sevenoaks AC members took part in the run. Dominic Brown was 5th in 20:39; Toby Galbraith was 10th in 22:31; Alistair Bishop was 13th in 24:03; Lyndon Collins was 15th in 24:29; Simon Lewis was 36th in 27:38; Rob Johnson was 48th in 29:05; and Ron Denney, the oldest competitor in the race at 73, was 53rd in 30:10.

Rockdale Housing Association, the chosen charity, was set up over 60 years ago with the aim of providing housing and care for older people in Sevenoaks. It was largely the result of the determination of one woman – Miss Beatrice Wilson – a gifted physiotherapist with a vision to improve the quality of older people’s lives in the town. Rockdale's mission is to provide innovative and flexible housing and other help for older people which they can afford, and which will enable them to maintain or improve their quality of life. Today, Rockdale offers 123 fully self-contained apartments for older people to rent and a further 28 leasehold apartments in Sevenoaks, and 14 apartments to rent in Tunbridge Wells. Rockdale House has been extended and improved and now provides residential care for up to 32 older people. Further information available on the Rockdale website.
