Andrew Mead chalked up his 13th win in 128 races in the final ever race of the Sevenoaks AC 2025 monthly handicap series with a fine run over five hilly miles. Three runners beat their handicaps on a bright windy morning, but with his best time for three years, Mead was nineteen seconds clear of the field and over three minutes ahead of his handicap in 34:07.
Also on great form, and running his fastest time for three years, club chair Dan Witt held on well for second place after being passed by Mead in the closing stages. He completed his 85th handicap race in a time of 36:26, beating his handicap by 2:44. The other runner to beat her handicap was third-placed Maria Ashlee who trumped her first two clubmates by running her best time for eight years of 51:34 in her 20th race.
Behind the first three finishers were the two leading contenders for the final series trophy. Jon Maxim just had to stay ahead of Heather Fitzmaurice to be sure of clinching the title, and an excellent run and course personal best of 37:16 kept him 21 seconds clear of his rival. Despite Fitzmaurice having her best run over the course for seven years with 39:17 for fifth place, and fastest woman on the day, she had to be content with runner-up in the series.
Chris Desmond held on to third place in the series despite not being able to contest the final race, while Andrew Mead ran the fastest overall time of the day.
The final final series tables are set out below.
