Joining the junior section
Our junior section is for athletes aged 9 to 19. Training groups are organised according to age and event, allowing athletes to develop within the areas of athletics most appropriate to them.
Sessions cover Running, Jumping and Throwing, alongside Fitness, Strength, Co-ordination and Athletic skills.
Taster sessions
When a place becomes available, juniors are invited to attend three taster sessions free of charge. This gives them a chance to experience the sessions before deciding whether they would like to join the club.
After the three sessions, those wishing to join will need to complete a junior membership form and pay the appropriate membership and training fees.
Training and competing
We welcome junior athletes with a wide range of abilities. Members are expected to attend training regularly and to represent Sevenoaks AC in club competitions where appropriate.
Competition is an important part of junior athletics and gives athletes the opportunity to put their training into practice as part of the club.
Younger athletes
Our usual minimum age is 9. In exceptional circumstances, and when the junior section is not oversubscribed, younger athletes may be considered. This is usually on the condition that a parent or other responsible adult is available to assist with coaching.
A child under 9 must not be left at a training session unless their responsible adult is coaching that evening.
Collection after training
Training finishes at 19:45 and junior athletes must be collected by a responsible adult. If a parent or carer is delayed, the athlete should remain with one of the coaches until they are collected.
Waiting list
Our junior section is currently very popular and we operate a waiting list for new members. Due to the number of athletes waiting for places, taster sessions are currently offered from Year 5 onwards.
If you are interested in joining, please get in touch and we can add your child to the waiting list.
Safeguarding
The club’s child protection policy applies to all junior athletes under 17.
Our Welfare Officer is Seb Naughton. If you have any safeguarding or welfare concerns, you can contact Seb at .
