Heather Fitzmaurice won the seventh race of the 2025 Sevenoaks AC handicap series by nearly two-and-a-half minutes. In wet, windy conditions, the fifty-five-year-old took the lead before the two mile mark on the hilly five-mile course and continued to move away to finish in a season's best time of 39:52. That was a minute inside her handicap as well as the fastest time and the best age-related performance of the day.
In second place, series organiser Simon Hallpike just managed to hold on to his ten second starting advantage over Sam Znetyniak as both recorded the same time of 43:57, a season's best for both runners. In fourth place, Chris Desmond ran the fastest men's time in the race of 43:18.
Five runners have already completed the three scoring runs needed to figure in the overall event, which consists of nine races with the penultimate race in August and the final race in September. Jon Maxim continues to lead the series, with Chris Desmond just two points behind in second. By virtue of her win on the day, Heather Fitzmaurice is now just one point further behind in third, ahead of Simon Hallpike on tiebreak.
The eighth race of the 2025 series is over the alternate seven mile distance. It starts from the Sevenoaks School running track at 08:30 on Sunday 17th August. Details are here. Handicaps and targets for regulars are here. Newcomers are also very welcome to come and take part.
